You can buy candles that are inexpensive but you’ll get just what you paid for – cheap candles. Wax candles are not the only type of candle you can make yourself. You can also make jar candles. These are very easy to make and they are great gifts. All you’ll need to make jar candles is: canning jars, votive candles, glass votive candle holders, ribbon or wire ribbon, craft glue and a filler such as potpourri. Fill a fairly narrow mouthed canning jar with what ever filler you prefer. You may use potpourri or any other filler you can think of. After the jar is filled, place the votive candle holder on top of the filling so that the tops of both jars are even. You may need to add or remove filler to make the jars even. Once the candle holder is in place, put the candle in the votive holder and then tie a ribbon around the canning jar. What you’ll have is a great homemade jar candle. You may either give your jar candles as gifts or keep them around your own home. Either way, you’ll feel proud that you created something so beautiful. Gel candles are very similar to wax candles but they are made of gel. They come inside a jar or container. wax, candle wicks, and scents and colors of your choice. You’ll also need a thermometer, a wooden spoon, a stove, and a double boiler to make your own candles. Once you have all your supplies, you’re ready to begin making your own wax candles. Take the wax you bought and break it into small pieces. Then heat water in the double boiler and throw the broken wax into the water. Be sure the wax reaches a temperature of at least 160 degrees. Stir the candle wax and then add whatever coloring you want your candles to be. After the coloring, add in a scent of your choice. Make sure the wax remains at least 160 degrees while your adding in the coloring and scent. Next cut the wicks to whatever length you would like your candles to be. Then dip the wicks into the wax. Take the candle wick out and allow it to cool. Then dip it back into the wax and take it back out again. Continue this process until your candle is the length you want it to be. Once the wax cools for the final time, you can then cut and scrap away the excess wax. The end result will be a homemade candle that you can enjoy. There is also a wide variety of fruit scented candles that you can buy. Some of the more popular fruit scents are apple, melon, and citrus. There are candles of many different styles and types. There are candles of practically any scent you can imagine. The last type of candle, one that is growing in popularity, is the tart candle. This is a very small candle that doesn’t have a wick. It’s melted to release its scent. Flower scented candles are very popular especially during the spring and summer. The most popular scents in this category are rose, lilac, lavender, and gardenia.
