candle making in colonial times

Online Information about candle making in colonial times

Candles have become very popular over the past several years. They are no longer just our best friend when the electricity goes out. Candles, whether pillar, votive, tealight or the like, are now used to freshen up the scent in a room, to give a romantic glow to a room, or to set the mood for special events.

There are many different reasons and occasions for buying candles. Occasions range from using them when the lights go out to using them to set the right mood while you’re asking your significant other to marry you. The first step to buying the right candle is to figure out what you’ll be using the candle for. Is it one of the reasons mentioned above? Or is it for a gift? Or is it for another reason all together?

Burning scented candles as aromatherapy can help you relax and de-stress after a long hard day. It’s becoming increasing clear that burning scented candles can help a person be happier in their everyday lives.

There are candles of many different styles and types. There are candles of practically any scent you can imagine.

Another line of scents focuses on relaxation. These types of candles are especially good to burn while taking a leisurely bath. Popular scents under this type of candle are green tea, eucalyptus, and mint.

Fantasy is another line of scents that are great to smell while taking a bath and relaxing. These scents include ocean breeze, rain, and a variety of tropical fragrances.

Votive candles are popular too. They are very small. They’re usually grouped together with other votive candles. Just like pillar candles, votives are usually scented.

Floating candles are used to create a beautiful scene. They’re usually used as centerpieces.

Did you know it’s very easy and inexpensive to make your own candles? The first type of candle you can make is a basic wax candle. The first thing you’ll have to do is go to a store that carries art supplies. You will need to buy candle making

About seventy-five percent of candles are scented. If you choose to go with a scented candle, you’re next decision will be what type of scent to buy.

wax, candle wicks, and scents and colors of your choice. You’ll also need a thermometer, a wooden spoon, a stove, and a double boiler to make your own candles. Once you have all your supplies, you’re ready to begin making your own wax candles. Take the wax you bought and break it into small pieces. Then heat water in the double boiler and throw the broken wax into the water. Be sure the wax reaches a temperature of at least 160 degrees. Stir the candle wax and then add whatever coloring you want your candles to be. After the coloring, add in a scent of your choice. Make sure the wax remains at least 160 degrees while your adding in the coloring and scent. Next cut the wicks to whatever length you would like your candles to be. Then dip the wicks into the wax. Take the candle wick out and allow it to cool. Then dip it back into the wax and take it back out again. Continue this process until your candle is the length you want it to be. Once the wax cools for the final time, you can then cut and scrap away the excess wax. The end result will be a homemade candle that you can enjoy.

The last type of candle, one that is growing in popularity, is the tart candle. This is a very small candle that doesn’t have a wick. It’s melted to release its scent.

Taper candles are almost always placed in candle holders. These are the candles that you see on dining room tables. They are primarily used to create soft lighting. They burn slowly and last a long time.

There is also a wide variety of fruit scented candles that you can buy. Some of the more popular fruit scents are apple, melon, and citrus.

Luminaria candles are for the outside. They are set in sand and usually have a thick wick so that they won’t go out in the breeze.
